Movie Directors Arslan and Photographer Özer Released
Movie Director Arslan and photographer Özer were among 35 people who were released on 16 February. In Istanbul, a total of 49 people were taken into custody in the scope of a KCK operation 3 days earlier. 46 people all in all were released in Diyarbakır and Izmir.

Court Decreed for Threat instead of Torture
The court handling the trial of Fevziye Cengiz who was exposed to violence at a police station in Izmir decided for lack of jurisdiction and sent the case to a Criminal Court of First Instance. Lawyer Yıldırım said the file should go to a high criminal court due to the torture allegations.

23 people were taken into police custody in Taksim/Istanbul when the police intervened against demonstrators on 15 February, the day jailed PKK leader Öcalan was extradited to Turkey. The same day, journalist Yıldız was taken into custody when she applied for a new job.

Anonymous got hold of four different databases of the Prime Ministry Telecommunication Association. On 12 February it was announced that the databases were hacked. The data was then published on Twitter by a user called 'Unnamed_Anarchy".

EU Turns down Fence between Greece and Turkey
The EU declined Greece's plan to erect a fence on the border to Turkey saying it was "unnecessary and too expensive". Assoc. Prof Danış told bianet that a fence was not the solution to the reasons of immigration. In her opinion, Greece wanted to give a message with this project.

Men Killed 12 Women in January 2012
According to the tally compiled by bianet, male perpetrators killed twelve women, four children and three men in January 2012. 26 women and two children were wounded. Ten women were raped. Women were mostly treated violently by their husbands.
