The Civil Society in the Penal System (CİSST) Association has released a report based on the complaints of prisoners in the first 15 days of January. Their complaints have shown that prisoners’ rights are violated due to the pandemic.

A lawsuit has been filed against journalist Melis Alphan over a photo that she posted. Alphan now faces up to 7 years, 6 months in prison over this photo from Newroz celebrations in Turkey’s Kurdish-majority southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

It has been a year since Hurmüz and Şimuni Diril got missing; while Şimuni Diril was found dead, the fate and whereabouts of Hurmüz Diril are still unknown. The Iraqi Christian Relief Council has made a call for the couple in 12 languages.

The proposals for nominations will be accepted until April 30 and the International Hrant Dink Award winners will be announced on September 15, 2021.

As part of coronavirus measures, the İstanbulites aged over 65 and under 20 will be barred from using public transport starting from January 15. The City Detective initiative has warned that this decision hinders the mobility of a large urban population.

In a news report in October 2020, daily BirGün documented the “public loss” of 450 thousand lira caused by the overseas trips of the members of Turkey’s media authority RTÜK. The public ads of the newspaper are now cut for three days over this report.
