“Erdoğan can appoint whomever he wants as a university president. His only condition is that he or she is from his party,” says main opposition CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu amid criticisms about the appointment of Prof. Bulu as the Boğaziçi president.

Appointed by President Erdoğan as the new president of Boğaziçi University, Bulu has said, “If we will become one of the 10 leading countries of the world, Boğaziçi is a must here. Our students, academics perhaps don’t see the big picture.”

The Presidency's communications director had filed a complaint against Kaftancıoğlu after the municipality demolished some small structures in the yard of his house.

While several students are still detained for having protested the appointment of Prof. Bulu as the new president of Boğaziçi University, the students of Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara have expressed solidarity with Boğaziçi students.

Detention warrants have been issued against 29 people, including colonels and majors; 22 people have been detained.

The journalist was accused of "implying a coup attempt against the government" after a one-minute excerpt from a video on his YouTube channel was circulated on social media.

The Constitutional Court has concluded that the strip search of a woman at the tea room of a police station violated the prohibition of ill treatment on procedural grounds.

The appointment has sparked outrage among the students and the academics of the university.

In the lawsuit filed into the death of 4-year-old Leyla Aydemir, the objections of the Public Prosecutor and the UCİM association against the release of paternal uncle has been rejected. Defendant Aydemir was previously given life sentence.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Metropolitan Mayor of İstanbul, has expressed his solidarity with the students and academics of Boğaziçi University in their "righteous struggle" against the new university president appointed by President Erdoğan.

Arrested on October 8, 2020, dismissed Co-Mayor of Kars Alaca has been indicted and the indictment has been accepted by the heavy penal court. Among the criminal evidence brought against her is her attendance in a folk dance with a Kurdish song.

Students have gathered in the South Campus of Boğaziçi University in İstanbul and protested the appointment of Prof. Bulu, also a former MP candidate for nomination from the ruling AKP, as the University President. Police have intervened into the protest.
