Editor-in-Chief of Cumhuriyet daily’s online website Oğuz Güven has been taken into custody.

Imprisoned journalist Ahmet Şık has applied to the European Court of Human Rights and demanded an order that he be immediately released.

Ruling on the objection to the 12 journalists being arrested soon after their release, the court has decided that the journalist remain further under arrest. Interpreting the court’s decision, Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz said: “Like the arrest order, overruling the objection is against the law as well”.

Standing trial due to their participation in the Özgür Gündem daily Editors-in-Chief on Watch campaign Ayşe Düzkan, Mehmet Ali Çelebi and Ragıp Duran as well as Özgür Gündem’s former co-Editor-in-Chief Hüseyin Aykol and writer Hüseyin Bektaş are facing 46 years in prison.

Journalist Canan Coşkun has been sentenced to 10 months on charge of “publicly insulting the military or the security organization of the state” in a news article she had written.
