Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Turhan has stated that 30 workers have lost their lives during the construction of the İstanbul Airport. According to the Laborers’ Health and Occupational Safety Assembly, the number of deceased workers has been 38.

In the first ten months of 2018, 1,640 workers have lost their lives in occupational homicides across Turkey. At least 177 workers, two of whom were children and ten of whom were women, lost their lives in October.

Turkish Statistical Institute has announced the inflation figures for October. Consumer inflation has increased by 25.24 percent in comparison with the same month last year, hitting a 15-year high. Annual producer inflation has been measured as 45.01 percent.

Reflecting the reverse trend in the aftermath of the devaluation of the Turkish Lira before foreign currencies, Turkey's foreing trade deficit decreases by 77.1 percent as the countries' imports fall.

Central Bank Chair Murat Çetinkaya has announced their inflation forecast for the fourth quarter of 2018. Accordingly, the year-end inflation forecast of the Central Bank has been increased from its previous level of 13.4 percent to 23.5 percent.

"The government advertises Istanbul's new airport as the biggest in the world, but the prestige project has been marred by reports of accidents and arrests of protesting workers," says, Emma Sinclair-Webb, director of international human rights NGO HRW.

Central Bank has not changed the political interest rate, keeping it fixed at 24 percent. The bank has also announced that it has been maintaining its “tight stance in monetary policy".

Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak has stated, “We anticipate that the budget deficit of Turkey in 2018 may amount to 72.1 billion Turkish Lira", which approximately amounts to USD 12.56 billion.

The Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey, Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions, Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects and Turkish Medical Association have paid a visit of solidarity and support to the Flormar workers on the 161st day of their resistance.

Six of the 3rd Airport workers, who were previously arrested for having protested the bad working conditions and occupational homicides, have been released.

According to the figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of unemployed in July 2018 has increased by 88 thousand people in comparison with the same period last year and become 3 million 531 thousand people.

In his circular letter concerning the “Preparations for the Investment Programme in the Period of 2019-2021”, which has been published on the Official Gazette, President Erdoğan has introduced the economic priorities and savings plans.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak has stated that it is not mandatory for companies to participate in the 10-percent discount campaign and called the citizens to prefer the ones that will take part in the campaign.

Chairperson of the Progressive Construction Workers Union Özgür Karabulut has been arrested. His attorney Okcan has stated that Karabulut has been arrested on four charges although there was no evidence against him except for his speech to the airport workers.

The number of arrested airport workers has increased to 33. Chair of the Progressive Construction Workers Union Özgür Karabulut has also been taken into custody.

The Laborers’ Health and Occupational Safety Assembly has stated that at least 157 workers lost their lives in occupational homicides in September 2018.

Consumer inflation in September has increased by 6.30 percent in comparison with the previous month and by 24.52 percent in comparison with the same month last year. As for the annual producer inflation, it has increased by 46.15 percent, hitting a 16-year high.

Natural gas used in housing has been raised by 9 percent following raises in August and September. Natural gas used in industry has been raised by 18.5 percent following 14 percent raises given in the last two months.

A petition campaign has been launched for the release of 3rd Airport workers, who have been arrested after protesting their bad working conditions. In the meeting, where the campaign was announced, it was stated that three more workers have been arrested.

The gross external debt stock of Turkey as of June 30, 2018 has been announced as 457 billion dollars. The external debt of the country has increased by almost 4 billion dollars in the first six months of 2018.
