Turkey had introduced a "foreign exchange-protected lira deposit" system, where the Treasury compensates depositors if the change in exchange rates exceeds earned interests.

Civil servants would be paid 400 lira as a bonus on the condition that their unions had at least 1 percent membership. The Council of State has halted the execution of the related article of the collective labor agreement.

Starting from January 1, 2022, the special communication tax, environmental cleaning tax, stamp duty, fees and fines imposed as per the Tax Procedural Law will increase by 36.2 percent. The real estate tax has also increased by 18.10 percent.

The Turkish lira gained about 15 percent in value against the US dollar within hours after President Erdoğan introduced the new system.
