RTÜK Issues Warning for "Erotic" Dance Program
RTÜK reprimanded and fined Show TV for six music videos, a dance program and a series that were deemed "obscene" and "pornographic" by the council. According to RTÜK, children and juveniles should be protected from these programs.

Men Killed 257 Women in 2011
In 2011, male culprits killed 257 women, 32 men, 14 children and two babies. At least 102 women and 59 girls were raped. 167 women were harassed; 220 women were wounded. In 2010, 217 women and three children were killed by men.

Men Killed 14 Women in December
According to data collected by bianet, 14 women in Turkey were killed by men in December 2011. 24 women were injured, 15 women raped and 16 harassed. In total, 259 women were killed by male culprits in Turkey in 2011.

Police Sentenced to Monetary Fine for Sexual Harassment
Police officer G.B. was sentenced to a monetary fine of TL 2;500 because he sexually harassed a women who applied for protection. Lawyer Keskin criticised insufficient penalties foreseen by the Turkish Criminal Law regarding violence against women.

Male Culprits Killed 20 Women in October
According to data compiled by bianet, 20 women were killed by men in October 2011. 22 women were wounded, seven women raped. From January to October 2011, a total of 226 women were killed and 93 were raped.

The ECHR ruled for a violation of the right to life in the case of the alleged suicide of Ekrem Kurt during his military service. His family will receive compensation from the Turkish government.

According to a research by the Silopi Viyan Women Solidarity Centre, "co-wives" as the second or third wife of one man at a time are usually being married when they are under 20 years old. Most of them come from Syria and Irak and stay mainly because of their children.

Mass Rape Case - Victims Absent at Court
The trial regarding the sexual abuse of four girls by 35 people in Siirt was postponed to 25 January. Defendant Kuzu, a former teacher of the girls, was caught and arrested last week. His file will be tried separately in December.

Male Perpetrators Killed 25 Women in September
Data compiled by bianet revealed that a total of 206 women were killed in Turkey from January till the end of September 2011. 86 women were raped. Most of the women killed in September were murdered by their boy-friends.

According to the monthly tally kept by bianet, 24 women were killed by males in August 2011. 17 women were raped, 51 wounded. The majority of violent incidents was observed in Istanbul, Izmir, Adana, Ankara and Antalya.

Rape Case Results in Reduced Sentences
The Court of Appeals upheld the decision for reduced punishment in the case of the mass rape of a 13-year-old girl based on the assumption that the girl gave her consent to the rape. Lawyer Yalçındağ warned that this is not a single case. The file was forwarded to the ECHR.

According to data compiled by bianet, 26 women in Turkey were killed by men in July 2011. 21 women were raped, nine were harassed, 32 women were injured. The highest number of incidents involving violence against women occurred in Adana.
