Where is 60 Billion TL Collected for Earthquake?

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Manisa MP Tur Yıldız Biçer submitted a parliamentary inquiry asking about the Special Communication Tax that started to be collected to dress the wounds of the August 17 earthquake.

Stressing that the tax implemented at then Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit’s term in 2000 as temporary was extended twice during the Justice and Development Party (AKP) term, Yıldız-Biçer stated that the tax was made permanent in 2004.

Underlining that then Minister in Charge of Economy Mehmet Şimşek had confessed that the money collected through the special communication tax were used in road constructions rather than in works related to earthquake following the Van earthquake, Yıldız-Biçer said that 60 billion TL (15 billion Euros) has been gathered so far, and this figure will reach 63 billion by the end of the year.
