Support from students for academics signing the declaration titled “We will not be a party to this crime” continues.
137 student groups and student representations from different universities have launched University Students Desire Peace.
They said “We are standing against massacre policies and threats, standing with our lecturers desiring peace” We are standing against massacre policies and threats, standing with our lecturers desiring peace” in the declaration titled “We embrace peace and universities”.
“We are defenders of peace”
Here is the statement of the campaign titled “University students desire peace”
“The call made by 1,128 academics from 89 universities for massacres committed by the state in Kurdish cities to end and form ways for peace has been lynched by especially the President, state officials, and media close to him. Those raising their voices against massacres have been targeted by expression such as ‘Crappy so-called intellectuals’, ‘Accomplice of PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party)’, ‘1,100 forms of betrayal’. Furthermore, so-called mafia Sedat Peker whose dirty relations with the state is known posed another threat saying ‘We will shed your blood in streams and take shower with your blood’. YÖK (Council of Higher Education) ‘top institute above universities’ has been given full authorization to determine the signees.
“Those who tell ODT (Middle East Technical University) ‘We will raid you as we’ve raided Cizre, Sur’ now target academics. This is a siege against Kurdish people along with science, democracy, academy and history of the universities. We as university student groups and representations at universities stand against this siege, massacre policies and threats and that stand with our lecturers. We shout out one more time that we advocate peace in an environment in which saying children shall not die is considered a crime, peace lovers are being lynched, we start every day with a massacre. We will not give up neither defending our universities nor defend peace!” (BK/TK)
