Turkey Ranked 101st Among 113 Countries in Rule of Law Index

The World Justice Project (WJP) has announced its report that examines how much rule of law is adapted in 113 countries.

Founder and Chair of the World Justice Project William H. Neukom has said, “We are witnessing a global decline in basic elements of rule of law. This decline threatens development everywhere”.

Turkey was ranked 101st among 113 countries, seeing a degrade of two ranks from 99 to 101 in 2017.

110 thousand people, 3 thousand experts were asked

The report was prepared based on the survey of 110 thousand people and 3 thousand experts.

Performances were measured in eight categories

The countries’ performances were measured in eight categories related to rule of law in the 194-page report.

The eight categories are:

Constraints on Government Powers

Absence of Corruption

Open Government

Fundamental Rights

Order and Security

Regulatory Enforcement

Civil Justice

Criminal Justice

Bad categories of Turkey

The worst performance Turkey displayed was in the category of “constraints on government powers”. Turkey was ranked 111th among 113 countries, passing Zimbabwe and Venezuela.

Turkey was ranked 107th in fundamental rights. Turkey displayed the most drastic decline in the category of “order and security”. (HK/TK)
