Turkey orders stay of execution for WhatsApp's new privacy policy

The Competition Board has ordered the stay of execution for WhatsApp's new privacy policy enabling it to share user data with its parent company, Facebook.

According to the order, Facebook has to notify users that accepted or didn't accept the new terms that it halted the execution of data sharing.

In early January, WhatsApp announced its new privacy policy and stated that users have to agree with it in order to continue to use the application after February 8.

After backlash from its users around the world, it postponed the update to May 15.

Noting it was possible that some users might have already agreed with the new terms, the board said, "If a decision is made after the investigation to be conducted that Facebook should terminate its behavior in question, reversing the advantages arising from the retrieval and use of the data is quite difficult."
