Phone Tapping Investigation in Telecommunications Institution
On the basis of a decision made by the Sincan 1st High Criminal Court in the capital city of Ankara, the Telecommunication Communication Presidency (TİB) is being investigated in the context of irregular wiretapping.
One judge and 3 specialists are now trying to find out whether TİB has conducted illegal tapping or not. The Presidency is run by Fethi Şimşek. President of the Judges and Prosecutors Association (YARSAV) Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu had claimed that he had been illegally wiretapped. However, his application to the judiciary had entered an order of nolle prosequi.
One judge and 3 experts are investigating the matter
Judge Hayri Keskinbir from the Ankara 1st Magistrate Criminal Court and 3 experts have started an investigation yesterday (5 November) in order to confirm whether or not TİB carried out illegal wiretapping. In the course of the Ergenekon investigation TİB had provided a large number of phone tapping records. The investigators focused on the system log and the server of TİB.
TİB had previously been criticized in the context of the Hrant Dink murder case tried before the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court. The Dink family lawyers blamed TİB to have delayed the demand of eavesdropping the murder suspect. Moreover, the institution was criticized lately because of blocking access to several internet sites for supposed reasons of "administrative measures". (EÖ/VK)
