Miners will march to Ankara in protest

The workers of Cenne and Seba mines in Ermenek in Turkey's central Anatolian province of Karaman are still protesting as they have been paid neither their wages nor their severance for months.

Protesting in front of the Cenne and Seba mines for months now, the miners have most recently protested at the City Square in Karaman as well as in front of their employers' house and office in Konya province.

As none of these protests and negotiations with their employers have achieved any results, the miners of Ermenek have now decided to march to the capital city of Ankara to make their voices heard.

Representatives of workers met employer Fehmi Özbey in Konya. "The boss is only sidetracking. None of our demands has been met. Despite all unlawful acts, the state still does not intervene," they have protested.

Accordingly, the workers have announced that they have decided to march to Ankara on October 1. They demand that the workers of Seba mine be reinstated and their salaries be paid. They have also stated:

"We want a concrete payment scheme to be drawn up and this scheme to be signed by Ermenek District Mayor, Chamber of Artisans Chair, workers' representatives and the company. We do not recognize any other solution methods than this, we reject it."
