International Reactions on Bomb Attack in Ankara

A large number of politicians from many countries and institutions including European Council, the United Nations, NATO, and the US have issued messages of denunciation following the bomb attack in Ankara.

International circles have reacted against bomb attack that took place in Kızılay square, the heart of Turkey’s capital city of Ankara.

It was Russian President Vladimir Putin who made the first statement following the attack.

After Putin, the European Council, the United Nations, NATO, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), England, the United States, France, Canada, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Iran have delivered messages of condemnation.

UN Secretary General Ban condemned the attack

According to statement issued by UN Secretary General Speakership, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon stating that they are receiving reports of deaths and injuries has expressed his condolences to victims’ families.

Ban condemning the attack expressed that the UN will persist to provide its support and solidarity people and government of Turkey.

European Council Secretary General: The attack was launched against us all

European Council Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland has posted message of condolence on Twitter following the attack.

“These terrorist attacks are attacks on our European values, on us all. My condolences to Turkey”, said Jagland.

NATO Secretary General: We stand in solidarity with Turkey

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as to the said, “I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and to the people of Turkey. I wish the wounded a full and rapid recovery.

There can be no justification for such heinous acts of violence. All NATO Allies stand in solidarity with Turkey, resolute in our determination to fight terrorism in all its forms”.

EU: We stand by Turkey in difficult times

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini and EU Commission member Johannes Hahn in their statement denounced the attack and said, “We stand by those who have suffered damage from this violence”.

OSCE Secretary General Zannier condemned the attack

OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier in the statement he made on his Twitter account said, “Shocked by the terrorist attack in Ankara. My condolences to all Turkish people and firm condemnation of all forms of terrorism”.

Condemnation by the US

White House National Security Council Spokesperson Ned Price in his written statement noted that “We offer our deepest condolences to the families and other loved ones of the victims, just as our thoughts remain with those injured in this senseless violence.

“The United States will continue to stand side-by-side with the Turkish Government and people as together we take on the scourge of terrorism. Far from deterring these efforts, such horrific acts of violence will only strengthen our resolve”.

Prime Minister of England Cameron: I’m appalled

Prime Minister of England, David Cameron in his official Twitter account following the explosion in the capital said, “I'm appalled by the devastating terror attacks in Ankara and the Ivory Coast. My thoughts are with all those affected”.

France: We stand side-by-side with Turkey

President of France, François Hollande said, “The president is in deep solidarity with people of Turkey following low attack that shook Ankara’s center and caused many deaths” in the written statement made from Palace of Elysee.

Prime Minister of France, Manuel Valls on his Twitter account posted the message, “France condemns the low attack launched in Ankara. We stand by those who lost their families and loved ones”.

Canada: Our thoughts are with Turkey

The message posted by Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its Twitter account read, “Canada is appalled by this latest, senseless attack in Ankara. Our thoughts are with our friend and ally Turkey”.

Condemnation from Netanyahu

The attack was condemned by press office of Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu by the following message: “Israel declares that it sides with Turkey in its fight against terrorism and calls for international community to unite in fight against terrorism”.

Saudi Arabia

King of Saudi Arabia, Selman bin Abdülaziz in his message of condolence he sent to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the attack he strongly condemns is unacceptable.

Egypt

Egypt also condemned the bombed attack launched in Ankara. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Ahmed Ebu Zeyd issued a written statement saying, “Egypt is with people of Turkey in this rough day”.

Iran

The message of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Hüseyin Cabiri that took place on official website of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads, “We condemn the terror attack in Ankara, and share the pain of the ones who lost their families, people and state of Turkey”. (EA/TK)
