Human Rights Association: 320 Civilians Including 75 Children Killed in Operations

The Human Rights Association (İHD) has announced its Eastern and Southeastern Region “Research Report of the Human Right Violations That Took Place in the Conflict Zones Between July 24, 2015-July 24, 2016”.

According to the report, over 320 civilians of whom 75 were children were killed in the operations during the curfews.

1,552 people in total lost their lives

The report announced by İHD Diyarbakır Branch Cahir Raci Bilici highlighted that human right violations didn’t diminish during the resolution process and that right violations have increased resulting by the clashes that have begun after the end of the resolution process.

“Comprised of soldiers, village guards, militants and civilians 1,552 people lost their lives, 1,683 others injured”, the report stated.

The right violations in the report compiled by the data obtained from media organs including bianet are listed as follows:

Extrajudicial executions

* According to the data determined during the military operations that were launched during the curfews declared over 35 districts in nine cities, over 320 civilians of whom 75 were children were killed.

* While some of the 320 people lost their lives due to the fire opened by the security forces, some others died because they couldn’t make it to the hospitals because of the blockade in the operation zones.

Armed conflicts

* 422 security officers lost their lives in one year, 1,065 others injured.

* While 614 armed militants lost their lives, 17 others injured.

* 42 civilians who were stuck amid the clashes lost their lives, 75 civilians wounded.

* 34 civilians lost their lives as a result of the armed organization’s attacks, 175 others injured.

Detention, arrest, torture and ill-treatment

* 286 people in custody, 161 people out of the detention places, 103 arrested and imprisoned convicts were exposed to ill-treatment. Four people were subjected to ill-treatment by the village guards.

* 31 people were threatened to death by the security forces.

* 7,884 people including 275 children were detained, 1,959 people including 81 children arrested.

* 4,223 houses and workplaces were raided by the security forces. (AS/TK)
