Health workers protesting for their deceased colleagues all across Turkey

A moment of silence has been observed in memory of the health workers who have lost their lives due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in several provinces of Turkey, including İstanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Mersin, Hatay, Antep, Adana and Eskişehir.

In an effort to raise awareness about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and press for effective measures, the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) declared September 14-18 the "Week of You Cannot Manage it, We are Burning out" under the hashtag "#YönetemiyorsunuzTükeniyoruz".

Within this context, health workers have commemorated their colleagues who lost their lives due to the virus by wearing black ribbons. Also, at 12.30 p.m. today (September 17), a moment of silence a observed in memory of the deceased healthcare workers in several provinces of Turkey, including İstanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Mersin, Hatay, Antep, Adana, Aydın and Eskişehir.

Addressing her colleagues in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya, Health and Social Service Laborers' Union (SES) Co-Chair Şükran İçöz has referred to the remarks of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli, who targeted the TTB in a series of tweets yesterday evening.

"We stand with the Turkish Medical Association, with whom we have been struggling against COVID-19 shoulder to shoulder and lost our lives for this cause and which has never stopped struggling for good practice of medicine. We condemn the ones who say that the TTB must be closed," she has said.

Some of the protests from across Turkey are as follows:

SES Union Antalya Branch: "Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Antalya MP Kemal Bülbül: 'I condemn the MHP's threat against the TTB, I bow before healthcare laborers in respect.'"

Ankara Medical Chamber: "A minute long moment of silence for all health workers and our citizens, whom we have lost in the COVID-19 outbreak. Private Medisun Hospital - Ankara. We will never forget you..."

Ankara Medical Chamber: "A minute long moment of silence for all health workers and our citizens, whom we have lost in the COVID-19 outbreak. Sincan Public Hospital - Ankara. We will never forget you..."

SES Union Adana Branch: "Today at 12.30, we observed a minute long moment of silence in medical institutions for our all citizens, whom we have lost due to COVID-19, especially healthcare laboreres.

"You cannot manage it, we are burning out. We are lucky to have the TTB. We stand with our physicians."

Turkish Medical Association (TTB): "Commemoration ceremonies with black ribbons have begun in medical institutions. It is our duty of loyalty. A minute long moment of silence in Maslak Acıbadem Hospital for all health workers, whom we have lost in the COVID-19 outbreak..."

TTB: "Mersin Yenişehir Hürriyet Family Health Center: With courtesy and respect..."

TTB: "We, as a Family Health Center in Antakya, have observed a minute long moment of silence in memory of our all patients as well as our colleagues and all healthcare laborers, whom we have lost."
