Health Ministry’s COVID-19 Situation Report now available online

The Ministry of Health has released in "COVID-19 Situation Turkey" report dated June 30. The report is now online in both Turkish and English.
Shared with the public yesterday (July 2), the report provides information about the geographical and demographic distribution of the cases and fatalities in Turkey as of June 28, 2020.
The latest situation in the country until June 28 is summarized as follows:
After the first COVID-19 cases in Turkey were notified on March 11, 2020, 3,297,509 tests were performed in total. Between June 1-28, 1,253,088 tests were performed. In total, 198,284 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5,097 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Turkey.
Total number of hospitalizations was 105,416 and 5,773 patient were hospitalized between June 22-28. Recovery rate and death rate of all confirmed cases were 86.04 percent and 2.57 percent respectively.

Geographical distribution of cases
According to the report, Since March 11, 2020, a total of 198,284 laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus disease have been reported to the Ministry of Health. The cumulative countrywide incidence over the past 7 days was 11.8, 14 days was 23.5 and 28 days was 41.4 cases per 100,000 population.

When the incidence of of COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days per 100,000 people is considered, the report shows that it is 19.2 percent in İstanbul, 2.1 percent in Western Marmara, 6.6 percent in the Aegean, 12.3 percent in the Eastern Marmara, 18.4 percent in Western Anatolia, 3.8 percent in the Mediterranean, 4.7 percent in Central Anatolia, 5.3 percent in Western Black Sea, 3.1 percent in Eastern Black Sea, 4.8 percent in Northeastern Anatolia, 8.7 percent in Mid-Eastern Anatolia and 24.7 percent in Southeastern Anatolia. It is 11.8 percent in Turkey in total.
Demographic distribution of cases
Of all reported cases, 48 percent were female and 52 percent were male.
Among all notified cases, 14,388 were children under 15 years of age (7.3 percent), 27,199 persons aged 15 to 24 years (13.7 percent), 98,032 persons aged 25 to 49 years (49.4 percent), 36,777 persons aged 50 to 64 years (18.5 percent), 16,672 persons aged 65 to 79 years (8.4 percent) and 5,215 persons aged 80 years and older (2.6 percent).
While the age is unknown for one notified case, the highest incidences were seen in persons aged 80 years and older, according to the report.

Mortality
In total, 5,097 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported to and confirmed by the Ministry of Health. Death rate of all confirmed cases was 2.57 percent. The lowest death rate was 0.03 percent for aged 15-24 when the highest death rate was 26.94 percent for patients aged 80 and older.

Of 5,097 COVID-19 related deaths, 3,183 (62 percent) were men and 1,914 (38 percent) were women. Median age was 71 years.
Of all deaths, 3,573 (70 percent) were in people aged 65 years or older, but only 11 percent of all cases were in this age group.
So far, 10 deaths among COVID-19 cases under 15 years of age have been reported and confirmed by the Ministry of Health. The lowest number of deaths per 100,000 population was 1.2, 1.3 and 2.1 respectively for Mediterranean, Mideastern Anatolia and Central Anatolia regions.

Last 7-day incidence
Last 7-day incidence with more than 15 cases per 100,000 population was observed in three NUTS-1 regions (Southeastern Anatolia, Istanbul and Western Anatolia). Last 7-day incidence per 100,000 population for Gaziantep, Diyarbakır and Konya were 25.7, 23.9 and 22.0 respectively.
On the other hand, last 7-day incidence per 100,000 population for Antalya, Nevşehir and Muğla were 1.4, 1.3 and 0.7 respectively. These provinces have the lowest incidence rate among metropolis in the last 7 days, also the most preferred provinces for tourism.
Last 14-day incidence per 100,000 population for Gaziantep was 49.0, for Diyarbakır was 47.7 and for Konya was 43.6.
Last 14-day incidence per 100,000 population for Hatay, Antalya and Muğla were 2.6, 2.5 and 1.6 respectively. These provinces have the lowest incidence rate among metropolis in the past 14 days.
Hospital Care
As of June 28, the total number of hospitalizations was 105,416. Percentage of hospitalizations between June 1-28 was 21.1 percent among all hospitalizations. 7.4 percent of all hospitalized patients were intubated. 93.4 percent of all hospitalized patients were discharged. (EKN/SD)
