Easter in Turkey

Easter, the festival and holiday in Christianity celebrating Jesus Christ returning from the dead, has been celebrated in Turkey too as in the whole world.

People's Republican Party (CHP) İstanbul MP, Selina Doğan has distributed egg and sweet yeast bread with the party's Balıkesir MP, Mehmet Tüm to journalists at Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Press Corridor because of the Easter. Doğan and Tüm clinked easter eggs.

Patisseries in the predominantly minority district of Kurtuluş in İstanbul has been decorated with sweet yeast breads and eggs.

At the House of Virgin Mary in Selçuk district of Turkey's western province of İzmir, a religious ceremony was held due to the Easter. Those coming to the house were taken to the section of the ceremony after passing through gendarmerie security control. Local and foreign tourists visiting the house ahead of the ceremony burned candles, wrote their wishes and hanged them on the wall.

Religious ceremony was held at St. Antoine Church on İstiklal street in Beyoğlu district of İstanbul because of the Easter. Those coming to the church was admitted to section of ceremony after security check. The participants burned candle after some parts of the Bible were read and hymns voiced.

The Easter was celebrated in Vakıflı neighborhood where Armenians live in Turkey's southern Hatay'sSamandağ district. Some parts of the Bible were read and people prayed in the ceremony within the scope of celebrations at Virgin Mary Church.

Religious ceremony was held at Latin Italian Catholic Church in province of Mersion due to the Easter. The attendants celebrated the Easter by burning candle and praying in the ceremony officiated by Priest Francis Dondu.

Catholics in district of İskenderun of Hatay celebrated the Easter with the religious ceremony they held in the church. The attendants prayed and burned candles in the ceremony in which the church was decorated with lights.

Religious ceremony was held at Protestant Church in İzmit district of Kocaeli province due to the Easter. Sweet yeast breads and colored egges were distributed to the participants.

The Easter was celebrated in Vatican with the religious ceremony officiated by Catholic world's spiritual leader, Pope Francis. the Pope in his speech commemorated those killed in the recent attacks launched in especially Belgium and Turkey.Thousands of people of different nations joined the ceremony at Vatican's famous St. Peter's Square.

Religious parade was held in Madrid because of the Easter. (NV)
