Detained Kobane People Attacked With Tear Gas

261 individuals from Kobane, Syria who have been detained for transpessing the border and kept in a sports complex in Turkey’s Suruç district have initiated a breakout plan, saying that the promises for release have not been released. 

The group faced police tear gas as they attempted to break out their captivity. Detainees include around 20 journalists. 

Hunger strike for a week 

The group including Hawar News Agency and Ronahi TV representatives has passed to Turkey through Mürşitpınar Border Gate on October. Since then, they are under detention. 

Officials, on the other hand, decline to define their status as detentions.  

“Here, people are fed up by all the promises being made,” Perwer Muhamed Ali, an interpreter, told bianet. 

“Are they going to question us or arrest us? Are they going to try us or punish us? This torment must be over at whatever cost. Some people are on a hunger strike for a week and they started getting sick.”

He also added that some detainees with special needs were released while other are kept for arbitrary reasons.

Previously, Ali told bianet that he has been asked “why he left Kobane so late?, claiming that some of his friends were accused of “cooperating with [armed] organizations. He also added that some were waiting to be questioned by intelligence officers. (EÖ/AS/BM)
