Annual inflation is 11.77 percent, TurkStat says

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2020 today (September 3).
According to the figures announced by the state agency, the consumer price index, which is also termed consumer inflation, increased by 11.77 percent annually and 0.86 percent monthly in August.
As indicated by the Institute, a rise in general index was realized in CPI on the previous month by 0.86 percent, on December of the previous year by 7.29 percent, on same month of the previous year by 11.77 percent and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 11.27 percent.

Healthcare among the groups with highest increase
The lowest annual increase was 2.44 percent in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Communication with 6.37 percent, recreation and culture with 6.61 percent and education with 8.50 percent were the other main groups where low annual increases were realized.
Miscellaneous goods and services with 26.99 percent, health with 14.68 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 13.51 percent were the main groups where high annual increases were realized.
The highest monthly decrease was 2.11 percent in clothing and footwear. In August 2020, the other main group that indicated a decrease was food and non-alcoholic beverages with 0.08 percent.
On the other hand, miscellaneous goods and services with 5.09 percent, transportation and hotels, cafes and restaurants with 1.56 percent were the main groups where high monthly increases were realized.
Average prices of 273 items increased
In August 2020, within average prices of 418 items in the index, the average prices of 92 items decreased and the average prices of 53 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 273 items increased.
Some of the items with the highest increase were cucumbers (25.17 percent), lemons (21.85 percent), eggplants (14.83 percent) and jewelry/gold (14.65 percent). (HA/SD)
