Academics Say No to War

Below is a copy of the letter that the 25 academic members of TUBA have sent to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chairman of Parliament (TBMM) Bülent Arinc and members of the parliament:

"We are Concerned"

As members of Turkey's Academy of Sciences, we are concerned about the highy dangerous consequences of a military intervention in Iraq. The war will cause events that ultimately cannot be controlled by powers that start the war, it will cause great suffering and permanent damage to our ! country and humanity in terms of democracy, sovereignty, security and international law.

We also think that the unilateral US intervention, which ignores the UN, will render impossible the future preservation of world peace. We demand that for all the pressure and threats our country is facing, Turkey does not participate in this war, does not allow its land, air space, ports and airport to be used for attacks.

We call the scientists of the world to oppose this war.
