Academics for Peace: We Stand by Our Signatures

Academics for Peace have announced that they stand by their declaration “We will not be a party to this crime” and the academics and researches signing it.
They have re-expressed their request to give independent national and international observers access to the region, to reveal and bring the suspects of the crimes before court and their demands for peace.
They have announced judicial process would be launched as to all defamations and the threats against them.

Over 1,400 academics and researchers from Turkey and the world have signed the petition organized over the call of the Academics for Peace.
Many reactions as many as support declarations have been published over issuing the statement calling to the state of Turkey for putting an end to the violence and preparing the conditions of the negotiations. Signings for support continue.
Academics for Peace issued the following statement as to the issue on January 13 on their website:
“We want to note the following in particular: We, as signees of the declaration ‘We will not be a party to this crime’ stand by our signatures. We would like to announce that we are going to launch the judicial process concerning all the defamations and threats. We would also like to thank the Education Union, Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD), Foundation of Psychologists for Social Solidarity (TODAP), the Peace Block, Litterateurs for Peace and all other organizations, associations and individuals.
“We stand by all academics and researchers from all over the world who signed the declaration. As of now, the petition has more than 2,000 signees, with the figure increasing every hour. In addition, we maintain solidarity with other academic organizations and associations to guarantee and stand up for our freedom of thought on the international area.
“Meanwhile, the barricades, deportations, repression, civilian, soldier and police deaths unfortunately still continue in Turkey. We once again call the state of Turkey to start the negotiations immediately. We repeat our demands for giving independent observers access to the region, revealing and bringing the suspect of the crimes committed before the court. We call on the whole Turkey to bunch up around freedom of thought and opposition, truth and peace”. (BK/DG)
