Commenting on the court ruling cancelling the changes in the development plan of the Dikmen Valley, which would zone green spaces for construction, Chamber of Architects’ Ankara Chair says, “The judiciary has found our struggle justified.”

In İstanbul, an agricultural land of 111 thousand square meters has been zoned for construction and declared a “commercial area.” There are currently 1,443 trees in the parcel and commercial units can now be built on 61 thousand square meters.

“How is such an irony, such foolishness even possible? The MNG company has destroyed the valley on the right side. They have now declared it a national park,” says Erdoğan Güler, the Spokesperson for the Arhavi Nature Conservation Platform.

An environmental platform joined by two municipalities and 23 non-governmental organizations said the Ayvalık Natural Park will be opened to construction due to a revision of the zoning plan. The park hosts endemic plants and wildlife. The platform claims to cancel the new plan.
