Following the funeral ceremony at Istanbul’s Teşvikiye Mosque this afternoon, Yaşar Kemal was buried in Zincirlikuyu cemetery.

Author Yaşar Kemal has been awarded with Bjørnson Prize by Norway’s Literature and Freedom of Expression Academy. “Nobody should forget that every war is a death order,” he said at a panel after the award ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a park and culture house dedicated to his name in his native Hemite village, author Yaşar Kemal reminded that he was never discriminated in his village due to his Kurdish ethnicity and wished “Turkey to be like his village”.

In an interview series with the Radikal newspaper, novelist Kemal spoke about a solution to the Kurdish question.

Writer Şeyhmus Diken has written a book about the last fifteen months in Kurdish writer Mehmed Uzun’s life. The book also features an introduction by Yaşar Kemal.
