Mersin governor Aksoy suspended 2 police officers because of exposing violence to 2 brothers in the Republic Police Office. Ministerial inspectors are required to investigate. Footage of the incident shows police officers still kicking and beating the brothers after they fell down to the floor.

Rights activists have warned that there has been a rise in cases of maltreatment and torture since 2005. Perpetrators mostly remain unpunished.
