Court Decides to Release Chief Editor of Kurdish Daily
A court ruled to release Vedat Kurşun, the chief editor of the Kurdish daily Azadiye Welat, in accordance with the Third Judicial Reform Package that came into force earlier this month. Officials jailed some 95 journalists in July, according to the BIA Media Monitoring Report.

166-year Prison Sentence for Journalist Kurşun to be Quashed?
The Court of Appeals Public Prosecution demanded to overturn the 166.5-year prison sentence received by journalists Kurşun, former executive of the Azadiya Welat newspaper. The Court of Appeals will announce its decision on 2 March.

Journalist Associations Criticize Heavy Sentence of Kurdish Journalist
National and international journalists associations criticized the prison sentence of 166.5 years handed down to journalist Vedat Kurşun. The decision is viewed as highly disproportional and politically motivated. The associations urge for a review of the referring legislations.

Lawyer of Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper journalist Kurşun, Serhat Eren, demanded to recuse a judge from a Diyarbakır court; the request will be decided on 13 May. Azadiya Welat correspondent Sayan from Van was released.

The Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court Prosecutor demanded a 105-fold prison sentence for Vedat Kurşun, former chief editor of Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper, under charges of "spreading propaganda for a terror organization".

Journalist Vedat Kurşun's Detention Extended to 10 Months
The Diyarbakır court decided not to release journalist Vedat Kurşun from detention. Kurşun is trialed under charges of "campaigning PKK propaganda". His lawyer Özen announced that Kurşun is trialed for his topics being picked up by other national newspapers.
