18 international rights and freedom of expression organizations have penned a joint letter to UN Human Rights Council: “You must not continue to ignore such a blatant violation of Turkey’s international human rights law obligations and commitments.”

In the human rights session of the UN Human Rights Council, NGOs have underlined the increasing human rights violations during the State of Emergency and stated that the violations must be monitored closely.

Turkey was criticized by at least 15 of a total of 54 countries speaking at the UN Human Rights Council on 10 May. Harsh criticism was voiced on Turkey's tolerance towards torture and on oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people.
