Sub-governor’s office bans Kurdish theater play to be hosted by İstanbul City Theaters
İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s City Theaters were going to host a Kurdish theater play, in a first in 106 years of history. Hours before the play, the Sub-Governor’s Office has banned the play. The theater group will take legal action.

In a first in 106 years, İstanbul City Theaters will host a Kurdish theater play
Supporting private theater groups having financial difficulties due to pandemic, the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İMM) City Theaters will host “Bêrû”, a theater play in Kurdish by the Teatra Jiyana Nû theater group, in October.

Cinema audience on decrease, theater audience on increase in Turkey
According to the Cinema and Theater Statistics shared by the TurkStat for 2019, the cinema audience in Turkey decreased by 12.8 percent in a year while theater audience increased by 0.7 percent and reached almost 8 million people.

Number of Cinema Halls on Increase, Number of Theater Halls on Decrease in Turkey
The TurkStat statistics have shown that while the number of cinema halls on the increase in Turkey, there are no cinema halls in eastern provinces Şırnak and Ardahan. The number of theater halls has been also on the decrease across Turkey.
