First hearing of the four employees of Sözcü daily, one of whom is in pre-trial detention, was held yesterday before İstanbul 37th Assize Court. The defendants made their statements of defence in the first hearing. Witnesses are expected to be heard in the second hearing to be held today.

Arrested on May 26, Mediha Olgun, editor-in-chief of Sözcü daily’s website, has been released on probation.

Being detained as part of an operation launched into Sözcü daily employees and its owner Burak Akbay, correspondent Gökmen Ulu and editor-in-chief in charge of website Medha Olgun were arrested, financial affairs manager Yonca Yücekaleli was released.
