The Council of State stayed the execution of a verdict to relieve Siirt Mayor Selim Sadak of his duties after he received a prison sentence on terrorism related charges. The Kurdish mayor believes the court’s latest decision was influenced by public pressure.

The Council of State ruled to dismiss Mayor Selim Sadak of the southeastern province of Siirt from his post following an appeal by the Ministry of Interior in relation to a 10 month long prison sentence he received on terrorism related charges.

A Diyarbakır court handed down a one year's prison sentence to Siirt Mayor Sadak under charges of "spreading PKK propaganda" on the grounds of using the term "Kurdistan" in a statement. Sadak was recently sentenced to another ten months in jail for a photo in a calendar.
