Officials from the United Nations Population Fund stress that the causes lying behind abortion cannot be resolved through legal prohibition or moral denunciation and call instead for greater access to birth control methods, introducing courses on sexual health in schools and strengthening the status of women.

UNFPA Report: More Sexual Education Needed in Turkey
According to a report by the UNFPA and the Demographics Association, 21.1 percent of men and 27.7 percent of women in Turkey do not know the reproductive organs. 48.7 percent of women think that “early withdrawal” is an effective contraceptive.
