Council of State has halted the execution of the regulation on Press Cards: “The authority of the Communications Directorate is limited to giving press cards. It is not authorized to decide who will be given the card or when it is to be cancelled.”

Submitting a petition to the Council of State as part of a lawsuit filed for the annulment of the new Press Card Regulation, the Presidency has argued that “a person is not obliged to have a press card to engage in journalistic activities.”

The Press Council has pointed to the possible negative outcomes of the recent amendments to the press cards regulation. In a written statement, the council has called for cancellation of the regulation.
