Özgecan Aslan, who was sexually assaulted and killed in 2015, has been commemorated at her grave by her family and friends. In İstanbul, women gathered for Aslan.

Ruling on the case of Özgecan Aslan’s murderer that was reversed in part by the Supreme Court of Appeal, the lower court has insisted on its earlier decision of penalty increase for “major sexual assault” and increased the prison sentence from 15 to 22 years and 6 months.

Murderers of Özgecan Aslan have been shot in prison. Ahmet Suphi Altındöken has died as his father injured. It is yet to be explained who shot them and how firearms were brought inside the prison.

All three suspects have been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in murder trial of Özgecan Aslan.

Today, Özgecan Aslan’s murder trial has started in Tarsus district of Mersin province.

The dead lion in the picture becomes not only a representation of Özgecan, but of the sacrifice of all women, anywhere in the world, who have lost their lives from the violence perpetrated against them. Who then, the crying girl? Their families, their friends, both men and women alike. Anyone who gives a damn. Anyone who wants it to change for the better.

According to Media Monitoring Center, an appeal to wear black for Özgecan Aslan was responded by 170 TV presenters from 32 networks.
