All Defendants of Oda TV Trial Acquitted
All of the 13 defendants of Oda TV case were acquitted in the trial that began six years ago at İstanbul 18th Heavy Penal Court today.

Journalists Şık and Şener Released
Four defendants of the Oda TV case were released pending trial: Journalists Nedim Şener and Ahmet Şık and Odat TV writers Çoşkun Musluk and Sail Çakır. Şık and Şener presented their defence at the 12 March hearing.

Doğan Yurdakul Released
Oda TV defendant Yurdakul was released from the Silivri Prison due to health reasons after eleven months of detention. Yurdakul had shared a cell with journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener.

KCK Trial: 5 out of 104 Detained Defendants Released
Five of the 104 detained defendants of the main trial about the Union of Kurdish Communities were released pending trial on 27 January. A total of 152 defendants stand trial in the Diyarbakır case that has been pending for 3 years.

None of the detained defendants of the Oda TV trial was released at the 10th hearing on 27 January. The following hearing was set for 12 March.

Journalist Şık: "I Do not Request my Release"
Journalist Şık, detained defendant of the Oda TV trial, said in his defence speech that his book "The Imam's Army" was investigated by the very people he described in the book. Şık claimed to be in jail because of his journalistic work and did not request his release.

GÖP Urged for Fair Trial and Release of Journalists
On the day of the 8th hearing of the Oda TV trial, representatives of the Freedom for Journalists Platform called for fair trial procedures in accordance with the law and urged for an end of the detention of the indicted journalists.

Pointing to "the right to a fair trial" and the "principle of publicity", representatives from national and international rights organizations criticized the congestion at the first hearing of the Oda TV trial. Most of the journalists could not enter the courtroom.

No Journalists Released
None of the indicted journalists were released at the first hearing of the Oda TV trial on 22 November. The court is going to evaluate the motion to require the judge to recuse himself. The decision will be announced in the coming hearing on 26 December.

Republican People's Party Deputy Oyan filed a complaint at the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors about Public Prosecutor Kansız who prepared the indictment of the Oda TV trial.

The indictment about journalists Şık and Şener and a further 12 people related to the OdaTV trial has been accepted by court. The document refers to evidence like "contradicting statements" or "witness accounts".
