Journalists and colleagues talk about Nagihan Akarsel, who was killed in Sulaymaniyah a year ago.

The prosecutor has alleged that journalist Fırat Can Arslan covered her funeral of killed journalist Nagihan Akarsel "in line with the organization's purposes and ideology."

Akarsel was shot dead in Iraqi Kurdistan. Her body was brought to Türkiye by land as the authorities reportedly did not allow air transport. Police blocked the entry of many people to her village to attend the funeral.

Responding to a question about the killing of Nagihan Akarsel in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, Türkiye's ambassador to Iraq had said, "The PKK and centers with connections to the PKK are targets."

Akarsel was killed outside of her home in Iraqi Kurdistan. The RSF points out that she was the fifth Kurdish person from Türkiye to be attacked in Iraqi Kurdistan in a year.

Akarsel was assassinated in front of her home yesterday.

Akarsel has been living in Sulaymaniyah for years as part of her studies on "jineology."
