Answering the Parliamentary question of CHP MP Gürer, Minister of Culture and Tourism Aksoy has indicated that 4 thousand 398 historical artifacts smuggled from Turkey have been returned in the last 15 years.

The monument near the Armenian border was demolished in 2011 after Erdoğan called it a "freak". Sculptor Aksoy told bianet that he will rebuild the monument in the same place.

Sculptor Mehmet Aksoy applied to court to stop the destruction of his "Statue of Humanity" that is supposed to be removed upon the directive of PM Erdoğan. He had called the statue a "monstrosity". Aksoy argued, "Turkey must not convey such an image to the world".
