According to the İstanbul May 1 report of Human Rights Association, İstanbul Office, 231 persons have been taken into custody in İstanbul on May 1. A TOMA running over a citizen constituted the severest rights violation.

The May 1 celebrations which have been organized in Taksim Square of İstanbul every year, has been held in Bakırköy this year, upon call of DİSK, KESK, TMMOB and TTB. The celebrations in İzmir took place in Gündoğdu square.
