The Constitutional Court will discuss the application of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) for the statute that grants muftis authority to perform marriage to be revoked and its execution to be suspended.

Rallying upon the call made by CHP İstanbul Provincial Women’s Branch, women have staged demonstration in Beşiktaş against the law drafting granting muftis authority to perform marriage.

Chanting “This marriage cannot be performed”, women have protested in Kadıköy, İstanbul against the misogynist law amendment draft allowing religious leaders to perform a legally valid marriage. The amendment law draft is expected to be discussed in the Parliament.
