Birgün newspaper writer Ergündoğan was convicted of insult of Haydar Baş, leader of the Kadiri order. He was handed down a TL 10,000 compensation fine on the grounds of a column that became subject of three different trials.

Birgün newspaper journalist Yalçın Ergündoğan was sentenced to a converted TL 2,000 fine under charges of "insult" on the grounds of an article about sheikh and BTP leader Haydar Baş.

The Supreme Court of Appeals reversed the decision against journalist Ergündoğan, who was fined for attacking the personal rights of Haydar Baş, president of the Independent Turkey Party and head of the Kadirli religious order.

A court decreed that Ergündogan's article in the "Birgün" newspaper contained an insult. Ergündogan will appeal.
