Politician Hatip Dicle is facing imprisonment of up to ten years because of the contents of his book and a speech he made at the Democratic Society Congress. Detained Dicle was elected as Deputy of Diyarbakır in June but deprived from his right to deputyship.

The independent deputies of the Labour, Democracy and Freedom Block decided not to enter parliament as a sign of protest against elected MP Dicle's disbarring. Spokesman Elçi announced, "We will not enter parliament if no concrete steps are taken".

Labour, Democracy and Freedom Block candidate Dicle will not be able to stand in the general elections on Sunday because a conviction decided by the Ankara 11th High Criminal Court in 2009 was finalized now. Mayor Güler was deposed from office for the same reason.

KCK Defendant Dicle Sent to Jail
A Diyarbakır court handed down a 1 year 8 months prison sentence to former DEP deputy Dicle on the grounds of praising imprisoned PKK leader Öcalan. Lawyer Laçin stated to file an appeal since Dicle is tried in the scope of the KCK trial under the same allegations.
