113 years ago today, a journalist was murdered in Turkey for the first time. Sixty-six more have been killed since then, with the last happening this year.

Releasing a statement on the occasion of April 6 Remembrance Day for Killed Journalists in Turkey, the Journalists’ Association of Turkey (TGC) has stated, “We still have colleagues battered due to their news in mainstream and local press.”

Erinç, president of the Journalists’ Society of Turkey (TGC) says that 62 journalists have been killed up to today. He has called on the Prime Minister to respect the press rather than call for boycotts.
