In the trial of the soldiers who participated in the coup attempt on July 15, 2016 and some of whom fled to Greece afterwards, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has demanded that 10 defendants be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Despite government’s objection, Council of State in Greece has granted right of asylum to Özkaynakçı, who was among the soldiers fleeing to Greece in the wake of July 15 coup attempt. The decision will set a precedent for the other seven soldiers.
