Yılmaz Karaca, the Chair of the Federation of Journalists of Turkey (TGF), has raised concerns about the economic hardships faced by the local press in Turkey, warning that at least 100 newspapers may be closed this year alone.

The Federation of Journalists of Turkey (TGF) has raised concerns that 17 journalists have so far died of COVID-19. The TGF has also called on the government to solve the problems of journalists whose press cards have not been renewed.

“As they are face to face [with people], our colleagues must be vaccinated against COVID-19 right after healthcare workers so that they can work in an healthy environment,” says Yılmaz Karaca, the Chair of the Federation of Journalists of Turkey.
