'Operation Back to Life was a crime against humanity, but perpetrators are given impunity'
Human Rights Association said in a statement 22 years after the operation, "No effective investigation was carried out about the perpetrators of the massacre or about those responsible for it, they were even protected, and promoted. Ali Suat Ertosun, the General Director of Prisons of the time was awarded the Order of Merit in 2004 for his role in this massacre."

"Right to Conversation” Still Not Fully Exercised in F–Type Prisons
The Istanbul branch of the Contemporary Lawyers Association has spoken with 200 inmates in five prisons. According to their report, there are problems regarding the right to health; the complaints of the prisoners are being swept under the carpet, arbitrary disciplinary punishments violate basic rights.

Mainly Kurdish inmates are protesting rights violations, such as arbitrary ban on publications in Kurdish. The hunger strike entered its 39th day. Rights defenders urge the government to act, warning that four inmates' health is deteriorating.
