While gas prices have increased by nearly 2,000 percent since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the increase in Türkiye's household prices was significantly lower than that, the Petroleum Pipeline Company has said.

Gas prices have risen by 30 percent and electricity prices have have risen by 15 percent.

The EPDK does not have an unlimited authority to determine the prices and the high pricing violates three articles of the Constitution, according to the Consumer Protection Association.

Underlining that electricity shall be offered to citizens in line with the public good, the TTB has filed a lawsuit demanding the annulment of the related Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) decisions.

Electricity used in housing has been raised by 8 percent following the raises in July and September 2018. Electricity used in business and industry has also been raised by 18 percent.
