Monthly rent of a two-room flat in the parts of Diyarbakır which was not affected by the earthquake rose from 3 thousand lira to around 7 thousand 500. Rents that were 800 lira increased to 4,000 lira in Elazığ.

In the trial over the violations of animal rights at the Elazığ Temporary Animal Care Home in eastern Turkey, the defendants have been sentenced to 6 months in prison. Animal rights advocates will lodge an appeal against the ruling.

An earthquake of 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked the region of the south-eastern province of Elazığ with its epicentre in the Karakoçan County in the early morning hours of 8 March. Latest numbers speak of 57 casualties and more than 60 injured.
