Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights Mijatović has released a report following her visit to Turkey from July 1 to 5, 2019. She has called on Turkey to “restore judicial independence and stop the practice of targeting human rights defenders.”

Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Mijatovič, who intervened in the case of Kavala at ECtHR, has submitted her written observations to the court: “The thesis that Gezi could have been orchestrated by a single person has no credibility.”

Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic has stated that some laws adopted in Turkey for struggle against terrorism have made life impossible for some people in the country.

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Mijatovic paid her first official visit to Turkey to talk to government officials about media freedom. Prior to the talks she attended a panel of the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences on freedom of expression.

Mijatovic from the OSCE appreciated Minister Davutoğlu's initiative for legal amendments to avoid trials on freedom of expression at the European Court of Human Rights and offered her assistance. She said that critical reporting is hindered by prion threats in Turkey.
