Scores Hit the Streets to Protest Government’s Policies of War
Scores of people hit the streets across Turkey on Thursday and Friday to protest the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) policies toward Syria. The demonstrations against the prospect of a war with Syria saw broad participation from a wide range of non-governmental organizations ranging from professional chambers to human rights groups.

The anti-government demonstrations in Hopa are still creating a stir in several parts of the country. 19 people were taken into custody in Ankara, 26 people were interrogated in Antakya. The police try to find connections between the protestors and illegal organizations.

Riots in South-Eastern Turkey after Military Operations
Thousands of people in south-eastern Turkey demonstrated against military operations that left 12 PKK members and 5 soldiers dead. Shops in the region remained closed, schools were boycotted. Demonstrators clashed with the police.

Country-Wide Protests: "Don't Touch the Internet"
Tens of Thousands of people took the streets in 31 Turkish provinces on 15 May to demonstrate against the "Draft Bill on Rules and Procedures of the Safety of Internet Use". The draft law will be enforced on 22 August.

Arrests of Journalists Protested in Turkey and Abroad
Protestors in Ankara wore a black band around their mouths to express their protest against the arrest of journalists Şık and Şener. Press members in Istanbul called for legal amendments and the release of the detained journalists. HRW and RSF criticized the arrests and restriction on press freedom.

3 Journalists Attacked in 2 BDP Demonstrations
A plainclothes police officer allegedly provoked an assault on journalists Eskin and Kaplan when they were covering a demonstration in Istanbul. Journalist İş was attacked by a plainclothes police officer in the province of Mardin when he followed another protest action.

DİHA Reporter Detained, Demonstrator Severely Injured
A Van court detained DİHA reporter Çiftçi and a further 10 people under charges of "connection to the KCK", the umbrella organization of the PKK. Cemil Akgül, a young man who protested the detentions, got severely injured on his head.
