Freedom House Critic of Press Freedom in Turkey
The US American rights organization Freedom House expressed concern about press freedom in Turkey also in respect to the recent developments. In a press release it was said that continuing harassment and detentions of journalists were an "alarming threat to press freedom".

The compensation claim filed against Nurgün Balcıoğlu from the Gaziantep Sabah newspaper was rejected. She was tried for criticizing retired judge Dilsizoğlu who had said, "Of every 10,000 murder trials, 9,000 are due to women."

Press Institute: Who Else is Being Bugged?
The Press Institute Association criticized the wiretapping of the Milliyet newspaper switchboard, "This is a new example demonstrating a severe violation of press freedom and freedom of expression in Turkey". Journalists organizations TGS and ÇGD condemned the incident.

Journalist Associations Criticize Heavy Sentence of Kurdish Journalist
National and international journalists associations criticized the prison sentence of 166.5 years handed down to journalist Vedat Kurşun. The decision is viewed as highly disproportional and politically motivated. The associations urge for a review of the referring legislations.

The Judicial Office decreed to account journalist Mustafa Balbay's pronouncement as part of freedom of expression, regarding his reference to Prof. Baskın Oran as an example of "bought-out intellectuals". The comment was assessed as "harsh criticism".
