58 Percent Said "Yes" to Constitutional Reform Package
99 percent of all ballot boxes were opened by 8.30 pm on Sunday night (12 September). The referendum on the constitutional amendments was approved by 58 percent of all votes counted by then, 42 percent voted against the package with a turnout of voters amounting to 77 percent.

50 Million Voters Decide
Turkey is going to the ballot on 12 September to vote on the Constitutional Reform Package. Electoral constituencies in eastern provinces close at 4.00 pm, and at 5.00 am in the rest of the country. More than 60 percent of the electorate is younger than 44 years and 40 percent live in 8 metropolises.

Constitutional Court Partially Annulled Reform Package
The Constitutional Court annulled parts of the government's constitutional reform package that redefined the process of electing member to the Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors and the High Court. The package is to be approved in a referendum on 12 September.

Constitutional Amendments to be Approved by President Gül
The constitutional reform package was approved by the parliament by 336 to 72 votes, two clauses were dropped. The package will be subject to a referendum once it will have been approved by President Gül.

Amendments of the articles related to penalties for civil servants, military jurisdiction and the reorganization of the supervision of judges and prosecutors and the Constitutional Court have passed through the Turkish Grand National Assembly on 5 May.

Political Party Closure Article Dropped
The article that should make it more difficult to shut down a political party was dropped from the constitutional reform package. With 327 votes it did not pass the threshold of 330 votes, though the ruling AK Party held a total of 335 votes.

Way Paved to Prosecution of Putchists
The Turkish Parliament passed another three amendments of the constitutional reform package on 27April. Amendments regarding the Supreme Board of Prosecutors and Judges were accepted and provisional article 15 on the prosecution of putchists from 1980 was lifted.
